Edmund Norwood Bacon was born May 2, 1910 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Cornell University in 1932 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and worked as an architectural designer in Shanghai, China under Henry Killam Murphy in 1934. In 1935 he returned to Philadelphia to work with W. Pope Barney.
